“To understand what makes music stylistically ‘psychedelic,’ one should consider three fundamental effects of LSD: dechronicization, depersonalization, and dynamization…Music that is truly ‘psychedelic’ mimics these three effects.” – Michael Hicks
This radio show tracks the progress of psychedelic music from its early roots in the 1960s to today’s iterations. Starting with original psychedelia artists from the Woodstock era, we follow the development of psychedelia into psych-, a style that is often tacked on to other genres. In this show, we will cover as many subgenres of psych as possible, including but not limited to acid, stoner, psychpop, ambient psych, krautrock, prog, and more.
